After Dark Portrait Party

Home to the nation’s portrait collection, the National Portrait Gallery comprises gallery spaces for their collection and temporary exhibitions, public areas including a café, shop, function room, theatrette, education and school group areas. The gallery displays some 400 portraits of people who have shaped Australia and who continue to shape the nation.

Celebrating its 20th birthday, the National Portrait Gallery engaged Dionysus to produce and curate a glamorous dance party in late February 2018. Bringing on close collaborator Chenoeh Miller as Artistic Director, the After Dark Portrait Party was a sell-out success featuring a specially-made seven-piece dance band playing songs from the National Portrait Gallery's exhibitions, fabulous performances, a public dance competition, two music stages, film screenings and lots of dancing.
